Elliot Loh came in today to share some of his entrepreneur war stories and advice for our companies. We appreciate his help as a mentor. Thanks Elliot!
“Elliot Loh is a product guy & entrepreneur living San Francisco. Elliot was part of the founding team at Geni, a genealogy and family networking site. He helped design and build the signature interactive family tree, before serving as VP Product and then COO. While at Geni, Elliot also worked on the first version of Yammer. Prior to Geni, Elliot was a co-founder at Tribe.”
Craig Schmitz is a partner in the firm’s Technology Companies Group, where his practice focuses on representing emerging growth companies, particularly in the technology and life science sectors, venture capital firms and underwriters. He joined Goodwin Procter in 2010. Prior to joining Goodwin Procter, Mr. Schmitz was a partner in the Silicon Valley office of Gunderson Dettmer. Before that, he served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and General Counsel at Ariba, Inc., a publicly traded enterprise software company. In this role, he was responsible for a number of functions including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic investing, partnering and licensing, and corporate governance.
Craig visited us at AOL to hold legal office hours with our teams. We welcomed his generous advice and useful insights, and look forward to seeing him again.
Rock Clapper came in today and gave our companies great advice during one-on-one office hours. As an angel investor and mentor in Band of Angels, his advice was definitely appreciated. Thanks Rock!
A bit of information on Rock: “Rock left his professorship at Brown Univ. and came to Silicon Valley in 1994. Basically, this coincided with his first look at an Internet application called a ‘browser’. He knew that his doctorate in applied social psychology was a perfect background for creating web-based consumer and business environments. At the time, Rock had done years of research and published many papers on persuasive communication, and was a sought after speaker in the U.S. and internationally.
Rock holds a BS in Psychology from Arizona State Univ., a Masters and Doctorate in Applied Social Psychology from the Univ. of Houston, as well as an alumnus of Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business Executive Education Program. Rock has been the CEO of several successful Internet and software companies in Silicon Valley. He is a veteran of company acquisitions, having negotiated such for each company he led, as well as having led a company to the position of a public offering. He is a member of the Band of Angels, a long time Silicon Valley investment group, and served on their deal selection committee for 14 months.”
Thanks Howard for coming in to speak with our new companies one-on-one. Your continued support of our program is much appreciated, and we look forward to seeing you come in again.
From his August Capital bio:
“Howard Hartenbaum joined August Capital in 2008. Prior to joining, he served as a General Partner at Draper Richards LP where he was the founding investor in Skype and a former member of the board of directors where his achievement resulted in his joining the Forbes Midas List of top venture capitalists.
Before entering the venture capital field, Howard was at Hughes Electronics, where he was responsible for supporting business development, marketing and sales of satellite, information security and automotive technologies developed by HRL Laboratories. He also worked in engineering positions in ergonomics and user experience at Honda Motor Company and manufacturing at Teledyne Relays.”
